Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing the right housing provider is an important decision, and we understand you may have questions about our accommodation, support and how we work. We've answered some of the questions we're most frequently asked below. If you can't find the information you're looking for, our friendly team is always here to help.
1. What is Beorma Community Housing?
Beorma Community Housing is a values-led provider of Shariah-compliant Supported Exempt Accommodation and transitional housing. We provide safe, high-quality homes alongside personalised support, helping people rebuild their lives, develop independence and move towards long-term, sustainable housing.
2. Who can apply for accommodation?
Our accommodation is available to adults who require both housing and support to achieve greater independence. We work with local authorities, referral agencies, charities and support organisations, while also accepting self-referrals where appropriate.
3. What is Supported Exempt Accommodation?
Supported Exempt Accommodation provides housing for people who need more than just a place to live. Residents receive tailored support designed to help them overcome challenges, develop life skills and successfully transition into independent living.
4. How long can I stay?
There is no fixed length of stay, as every resident's journey is unique. Our focus is on helping you achieve the skills, confidence and stability needed for independent living. From the outset, your dedicated key worker will develop a personalised support plan with clear objectives and regularly review your progress, ensuring you move into settled accommodation when the time is right for you.
5. What support will I receive?
Every resident is assigned a dedicated key worker who will work closely with them to develop a personalised support plan. Depending on individual needs, this may include employment and training support, benefits guidance, financial wellbeing advice, mental health signposting, family mediation, tenancy readiness, life skills development and connections to local community services. Our aim is to provide holistic support that enables residents to achieve lasting independence.
6. Can I refer myself?
Yes. We welcome self-referrals where appropriate, alongside referrals from local authorities, charities and partner organisations. You can complete our online referral form or ask a support worker, social worker or other professional to submit a referral on your behalf.
7. Is Beorma Community Housing safe?
Absolutely. Resident safety is our highest priority. Every property undergoes comprehensive inspections before occupation and is maintained to a high standard throughout each tenancy. We meet, and where possible exceed, the relevant consumer standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing, while also complying with Birmingham City Council's licensing and housing requirements. Regular property inspections, robust safeguarding procedures and responsive maintenance ensure residents can feel safe, secure and supported in their home.
8. Is Beorma Community Housing Shariah-compliant?
Yes. Our organisation operates in accordance with Islamic principles, ensuring our approach to housing, partnerships and financial arrangements reflects our commitment to fairness, transparency, ethical practice and social responsibility. We welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds.
8. Will I have my own room?
Yes. Every resident will have their own private bedroom within a safe and well-maintained property. Depending on the accommodation, facilities such as the kitchen, bathroom and communal living areas may be shared with other residents.
10. How do I apply?
Applying is simple. You can complete our online referral form, contact our team directly or speak with your local authority, support worker or referring agency. Once we receive your enquiry, we'll assess your needs to determine whether our accommodation and support services are the right fit.
